How much does a branded pram cost: new vs second-hand
The question of how much a branded pram costs has two answers: the shop price and the second-hand price. For premium brands, the difference is surprisingly large, which is exactly why it pays to monitor aggregators like this one. We will look at both sides and explain why, with prams, it makes sense to consider not only buying but also selling later on.
New price: what you pay in a shop
Prices of new branded prams in the Czech Republic are roughly as follows (indicative, depending on specific equipment and attachments):
- Entry-level models from premium brands (undercarriage with sports seat only) - approx. 12 000 - 18 000 Kč
- Mid-range pram with a carrycot (combined pram 2-in-1) - approx. 18,000 - 28,000 Kč
- Flagship models with full equipment (3-in-1, adapters, accessories) - approx. 28 000 - 45 000 Kč
Treat these figures as a rough guide, always check the exact price with the seller or manufacturer, as it varies by season, collection and current promotions.
Why branded prams hold their value
Not every pram loses value at the same rate. For premium brands, there are three reasons why the price falls more slowly than with cheaper competitors:
- Physical lifespan - The high-quality frame and chassis easily handle two to three children, so demand for like-new units remains consistently high.
- Parts availability - Worn wheels, covers or brakes can be purchased even years later, so the pram remains functional and saleable for longer.
- Permanent demand - Brands such as Cybex, Bugaboo or Stokke have built a reputation that makes buyers willing to pay extra even for second-hand items.
Second-hand price: indicative range based on market practice
General practice on classified portals shows a rough rule: in the first year of use, a pram loses the most value; in subsequent years, the price declines more gradually.
| Age | Approximate share of the new price |
|---|---|
| Up to 1 year, excellent condition | 60 - 75 % |
| 2 - 3 years old, good condition | 40 - 55 % |
| 4+ years old, working condition | 25 - 40 % |
Differences between individual brands (Cybex, Bugaboo, Thule, Joolz, Stokke) in terms of percentages and prices are discussed in detail in our older article. How much does a second-hand pram cost?.
Why buying second-hand is worth it: and why selling is too
The economics of a premium pram work in your favour at both ends. When you buy a nearly new item from the second-hand market, you save tens of per cent compared to the new price without losing quality: the pram still has years of use ahead. And when you sell it once you no longer need it, you get back significantly more than if you had opted for a cheaper brand at the start, which is almost impossible to monetise on the second-hand market.
In other words: the difference between "buying and losing money" and "buying, using and selling with a small loss" is mainly the choice of brand: not whether you buy new or second-hand.
What makes a sale a good deal
When selling a branded pram yourself, the final price reflects more than just its age. Complete accessories (adapters, rain cover, carrycot) increase the value significantly more than the cost of buying individual parts new, buyers appreciate not having to source and assemble anything themselves. Current photo documentation and a clear description of condition work equally well compared to a generic "in good order". And as our buyer guide Second-hand pram from a marketplace: what to watch out for explains, a clean and well-oiled pram looks trustworthy at first glance, and that will be reflected in the price you ask for it.
