Second-hand pram from a marketplace: what to watch out for before buying

Buying a second-hand branded pram is one of the most sensible purchases in baby gear, if you know what to inspect on site. The difference between a pram that will last another few years and one that will fall apart within three months is often clear within five minutes of a personal inspection. Here is a guide on what to focus on, whether you are buying via Bazoš, Vinted, or in a shop with a warranty.

Allow yourself enough time for the viewing and do not rush because "there are more interested parties waiting for the pram". A seller who refuses to unfold the pram on the spot or does not allow you to inspect the wheels and brakes up close is in itself a signal that the inspection might reveal something.

Chassis, brakes and belts: on-site inspection

The chassis is the heart of the pram and the only part that cannot be improvisedly repaired in the field. Before paying, test it out:

Normal wear and tear or a problem?

A second-hand branded pram does not have to look like new, and it need not. However, distinguishing ordinary signs of wear from actual risk is crucial.

How to identify a stolen or counterfeit pram

Theft of prams on classifieds portals is rare, but with premium brands worth tens of thousands of Kč, it pays to be cautious.

Where and how to collect Always insist on personal handover and inspection in daylight. Paying in advance without seeing the pram is a risk regardless of how trustworthy the ad appears.

How to recognise a fair price

A fair price reflects the age, condition and completeness of the equipment: not just what the seller originally paid for the pram. Before offering less or accepting a price, compare the listing with similar items of the same brand and age. Missing adapters, rain covers or mosquito nets also affect the price, buying missing parts for a new pram is often more expensive than it seems, and this cost should be deducted from the asking price. A specific indicative price range based on age is covered in detail in the article How much does a branded pram cost.

A complete checklist including comparisons of Bazoš, Vinted and other second-hand sites with warranty is in our older guide how to choose a second-hand pram. If you are still deciding what type of pushchair to look for, start with the article How to choose a pram: types and what to consider.
